Aishah Ghani perplexed by transition plan for Wanita Umno

REMBAU, WED:
Umno veteran, Tan Sri Aishah Ghani said she found the leadership transition plan for the wing as announced by its head Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz on Monday as rather perplexing.
She said it was inappropriate for a leadership transition to occur after a person is given a mandate to lead Wanita Umno for three years.
“This has never happened before in the history of Wanita Umno. By right the choosing of the leader of Wanita Umno should be done during party elections and by the delegates, as it is their right to decide on who they want as their leader,” she told reporters after participating in a visit by a delegation of Koperasi Jaya Murni Wanita Bhd Kuala Lumpur to Rembau today.
Rafidah in making the announcement proposed that the top two posts of the wing not be contested in the party’s elections this year and that she would voluntarily hand over the mantle to Wanita Umno vice president, Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, at the latest by June next year.
Aishah said the formula proposed by Rafidah, purportedly in the interest of party unity, “did not hold any water” and added that democracy should be allowed to flourish in Wanita Umno.
She said she was not against Rafidah resorting to such an action but hoped the latter would reconsider her decision as the transition plan would also create a leadership vacuum for the number two post.
“This might lead to more problems as a suitable candidate has to be found to fill Shahrizat’s place,” she said.
Aishah, 84, who has been an Umno member for 44 years since 1960, helmed Wanita Umno for 12 years from 1972. She was also the second woman in Malaysia’s history to hold a Cabinet post when she was appointed Welfare Minister in 1973.
kzso - it's only one of umno's wing. so why the need to have power transition? sounds. suspicious; can't just rafidah resigned and bowed out gracefully?
