Saiful’s dad calls on Anwar to swear to clear name
ALOR STAR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim should not have any reservations about swearing in the name of Allah, because he has taken oaths many times before in the course of his political career.
This is what Azlan Mohd Lazim, the father of Mohd Saiful Bukhari, who recently swore on the Quran that Anwar sodomised him, had to say following the PKR de facto leader’s reluctance to swear to clear his name.
“In the past, Anwar has taken oaths when he took office as MP, minister and deputy prime minister.
“So, why is he giving so many excuses not to swear in the name of Allah to clear his name if he really did not sodomise my son?” he said when contacted yesterday.
Azlan, 55, also questioned the credibility of the religious figures from political parties who claimed it is un-Islamic to swear on the Quran.
“They should not allow political interest to cloud their judgment,” he said, adding that he had sought the advice of apolitical ulama on the swearing process.
Azlan also reiterated that the swearing ceremony was not politically motivated.
“Nobody pressured Saiful to swear on the Quran.
“He did it on his own accord to stand by his claim. It is a personal matter between my son and Anwar.
“Anwar and his supporters should stop politicising the matter. He should just swear and leave everything else to Allah,” he said, calling on Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to advise her husband on that matter.
He said he was not linked to any political party, and that he had no personal interest in the matter.
