The story of the street shootingof R. Sri Sanjeevan, the leader of crime watchdog MyWatch, has kept Malaysians riveted with strange twists and turns.
And now, there is this latest twist. Former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan (pic), who was the patron of MyWatch, has quit the watchdog to lead his own non-governmental organisation.
Musa himself wouldn't say anything about it but two separate sources confirmed the news to The Malaysian Insider. They are MyWatch adviser S. Gobi Krishnan and former MyWatch secretary-general V. Ravindran.
Ravindran will be joining Musa, who will chair a new crime watchdog, Malaysia Community Crime Care Association.
"All will be revealed at our first meeting later today," Ravindran said, adding that the association was registered in April.
Ravindran said he left MyWatch because even as secretary-general he was not consulted on several matters involving the crime watchdog.
"I have also heard of disturbing news before Sanjeevan's shooting and decided to distance myself from MyWatch," he said, adding, "I cannot say anything more as Sanjeevan's shooting is still under investigation."
Sanjeevan, 29, was hit execution-style at a traffic light junction in Bahau, Negri Sembilan, on July 27, but is currently recuperating at Serdang Hospital.
Police are still waiting to interview him.
MyWatch adviser Gobi told The Malaysian Insider that earlier information on police's involvement in Sanjeevan's shooting was not true. He said new evidence has come up to suggest that the shooting was related to drug gangs.
"I am not saying anything more," he responded when pressed on what he meant by this. - September 6, 2013
