Gaza Ceasefire Completely Breached, Prepare For War Again
I hope we can still recall the last Gaza War that ended with a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in November 2012.
That was just about 14 months ago. Well the ceasefire is now effectively dead.
Over the past two weeks there has been an increasing exchange of missile attacks, bombings by the Israeli airforce and shootings over the Gaza - Israel border as well as across the Lebanon - Israel border.
Earlier today Thursday 16 January 2013 five rockets were fired from Gaza into Israel.
On Wednesday the Israelis responded to another rocket attack by attacking four targets in thenorthern Gaza Strip : an underground rocket launcher, a weapons storage facility and a weapons manufacturing site.
On Monday, the Israelis struck two targets in Gaza evening in response to rocket fire on southern Israel earlier in the day.
There is an escalation over the past two weeks in attacks from Gaza, leading to questions about Hamas’s ability to enforce the truce that has been in effect since November 2012.
- Hamas’s ability to enforce the cease-fire may be in decline because of growing pressure from Egypt
- which has sealed smuggling tunnels linking Gaza to Sinai
- and because of the Egyptian military government’s general hostility toward Hamas
- due to the group’s affiliations with Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood
The increase in attacks might be tied to Hamas’s lesser ability to govern Gaza. From past experience the Israelis always retaliate against large numbers of rocket attacks.
Those who will profit from this, those who will benefit from this, will start preparing the tools of their trade. Trouble is being brewed. Mark the date today Thursday 16 January 2014.
