PAS rejects pro-ISA man
By Shazwan Mustafa KamalKUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 — Principles come second when pertaining to matters of the afterlife. At least, that’s what Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz says he feels.
His application to join PAS was denied today.
Speaking to reporters outside the PAS headquarters here, Khairul, who is also president of the Coalition of Young Malay Graduates (GGMM), said the reason why he wanted to join PAS was because he wants to “go to heaven”, alluding to a statement Umno leaders alleged that PAS leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat had made about how Umno members would not go to heaven.
“The Federal Constitution states that it is my basic right as a free citizen to join any legal party, and I have fulfilled all the requirements of PAS. The reason why they rejected me was because I support the ISA (Internal Security Act) which is against PAS’s stand,” said Khairul.
The PAS hopeful certainly came prepared, bringing along an entourage of three other people carrying banners which proclaimed “PAS Take Beer,” which is a pun on PAS's "takbir" rallying cry and the recent controversy over the sale of beer in Selangor.
He said if PAS was against the ISA, then he would also change his position from being pro-ISA to anti-ISA.
“I am anti-ISA now. I want to go to heaven. I am saddened because since I cannot enter PAS I am not guaranteed a place in the afterlife,” he said.
Responding to a PAS official asking him about the sincerity of his motives, he replied by saying that he was sincere and that he thought of Nik Aziz as a “prophet” because people will listen to everything he says.
When asked about his next move, he said he would be presenting his case to the Human Rights Commission (Suhakam).
