Khalid plays down assault on Loh as internal affair
SHAH ALAM:
Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim has brushed off the assault against Kelana Jaya MP Loh Gwo Burne by the aide of a fellow PKR assemblyman, calling it an internal dispute.
He said no disciplinary action would be taken against them.
“It’s among the young ones of PKR. We see it as an internal dispute. Both men have apologised,” he said after opening the Astronomy Convention at Sirim here yesterday. Khalid said that both men had had a difference of opinion.
Loh lodged a police report over the Thursday incident, alleging that he was punched in the right eye by a man believed to be the personal assistant of Seri Setia assemblyman Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
Nik Nazmi, who is currently in Britain attending his wife’s graduation, is Khalid's political secretary.
The incident occurred during the groundbreaking ceremony for a place of worship at Desa Mentari on Friday. Residents there had protested against the construction of the building.
Khalid said to avoid future misunderstandings, approval from the respective local authorities must be obtained prior to any construction of places of worship.
Meanwhile, Umno information chief Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib said the incident showed the new government had failed “to control” its people.
“Since 1957 under the Barisan Nasional administration, there has never been any incidence of fighting over places of worship.
“We usually resolve everything by consensus,” he said at a press conference after opening a day-long seminar titled Islam Hadhari atau Hadhariah Islamiah? here yesterday.
