THE AWAKENING IS OPPOSITIONS’ PLAN TO WEAKEN NAJIB MALAY-BASE SUPPORT

THE AWAKENING IS OPPOSITIONS’ PLAN TO WEAKEN NAJIB MALAY-BASE SUPPORT

Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s The Awakening: The Abdullah Badawi Years has now become a controversy – political controversy with so many assumptions and conspiracy stories.

It is very interesting because it gives a new perspective to the many theories on how how Anwar Ibrahim plans to topple Prime Minister Najib Tun Abdul Razak as well as ‘politically killing former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.’

The assumption or rather theory in the plot thickens with Khairy Jamaluddin playing the lead role in Najib’s Cabinet who is said will be responsible to bring Anwar back to Umno.

Abdullah’s interview mostly circled around his administration and reasons why he did not follow through projects and plans charted by Dr Mahathir when the latter was Prime Minister.

These are ‘bullets’ used by the opposition to paint a picture of enmity between him and Dr Mahathir and rundown the latter as he is seen as the prime mover of Najib’s support.

The oppositions, especially Anwar Ibrahim, has been trying to weaken Najib through various allegations but none sticks and Abdullah’s book can be considered as one of the ways to weaken Najib’s foundation through ‘elimination’ of Dr Mahathir.

The oppositions have in their minds that Najib’s Malay support comes from Dr Mahathir’s influence and weakening or eliminating Dr Mahathir will weaken Najib.

Thus the book is aimed at Dr Mahathir and not Najib.
Secondly, the oppositions want Malaysians at large to view that Abdullah is with them politically to unseat Najib, and together with him is none other than Tun Musa Hitam.
They want to have an image of wholesomeness…where they are being supported by all level of Malaysians including former Prime Minister and former Deputy Prime Minister.

They want to paint an image where they are seen as truly representing every generation and are fit to take over from Najib and the Barisan Nasional (BN).

Thus, the Awakening is considered as part of their strategy to demonise Dr Mahathir and erode Najib’s Malay base with Abdullah seen as on their side.

Despite Abdullah’s denial which was published in the main media, perception is already made and the picture painted.

And with Anwar’s anger on the election courts throwing out most of the election petitions, the Awakening can be considered as one of the oppositions way of further creating distrust on Najib’s administration.

The only way things can change for the better is when Malaysians at large are awaken from the influence of the oppositions plans and strategies.
