The revelation of phantom members in MCA came as no surprise - Tan Zhong Yan
The recent revelation by a businessman, Vincent Ng who claims to have helped the MCA to produce tens of thousands phantom members came as no surprise nor shocking. This revelation only further reinforces the claims of the existence of phantom voters in elections as claimed by the opposition and some quarters.
If MCA by itself can produced tens of thousands phantom members, then what’s so difficult for the Barisan Nasional to produce even more numbers of phantom voters in using the same method to win the elections?
This revelation also explained very much on why the MCA was badly defeated in the recent GE and I bet that the MCA leaders were not surprised at all for their defeats as all these while their claim to have more than a million of members was only for ‘syok sendiri’ (self-satisfaction).
The Registrar of Societies (RoS) should immediately investigate the claims by thebusinessman regarding the phantom members in MCA like how they investigate DAP. The failure to launch any investigations will only prove that they are practicing double standards and not an independent body. Should the RoS decides to deregister DAP just for some technical problems during their internal party election, then there are no reasons why the RoS should not deregister the MCA or even Barisan Nasional (as the phantom members in MCA are also phantom members in Barisan Nasional) as well if the claims are true.
The police and the Attorney-General should also immediately launch investigations and take swift actions on this claim as there might be some elements of fraud or other crimes involved. While all these are unlikely to happen, I still hope and pray that the authorities would act fairly in this issue.
But if one is expecting for the comments of our Prime Minister Najib Razak, who is also the chairman of Barisan Nasional on this issue, I could just say let’s forget about it. - July 28, 2013.
