Saudi Arabia To Put Non Muslims On Planes

Saudi Arabia To Put Non Muslims On Planes

That school in Sg Buloh put non Muslim students in the shower room in the fasting month. Well here is news from Saudi Arabia. They want to put non Muslims who eat or smoke in public during the fasting on airplanes and expel them.

  • Foreigners caught breaking the fast in public “will be subject to deterrent measures that include terminating their employment contracts and expelling them from the kingdom,” according to a statement from the interior ministry.
  • AFP, Riyadh -  Saudi Arabia threatened on Tuesday to expel non-Muslim expatriates who eat, drink, or smoke in public during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.
  • “Non-Muslim residents in the kingdom must not eat or drink in public during Ramadan, in respect to the holiness of Ramadan and the feelings of Muslims,” said an interior ministry statement published by the official SPA news agency.
  • Saudi Arabia is home to eight million foreigners, mostly Asians.

Dont they have shower rooms in Saudi Arabia?

I think this action by Saudi Arabia represents the increasingly paranoid attitude of many Muslims including here in Malaysia.

Their "holier than thou" attitude is now being forced upon other people.

What evidence do they have that the Prophet made this a law upon his people? Did the Prophet go around saying that in the fasting month all non fasting people (non Muslim or Muslim) should not eat in public? Or that they will be expelled from the land? So where do the Saudis get this new religious law? It is definitely and certainly not god's law or even shariah law. It is just another fabricated law - another invention that they make up as they go along. There is a lot of this type of behaviour among the religious people. They invent or fabricate their own laws. Then after a while they start to claim that this is god's law and etc.

And this Saudi behaviour is quite strange.  Eating and drinking is a basic necessity of all human beings. Everyone knows that during the fasting month even the Muslims do not fast 24 hours. The breaking of the fast is at sundown. And the non Muslims do not eat 24 hours a day. They observe regular eating times  at breakfast, lunch and dinner time.

So why should non Muslims be prevented from eating in public to 'respect the feelings" of the Muslims?  What exactly is meant by "respect the feelings"?

What this does is give the wrong image to the non Muslims - that the Muslims are actually suffering and torturing themselves during the fasting month by not eating. So the non Muslims must "respect their feelings" and dont eat in public. Whether you agree or not - that is how it comes across.

I know for a fact that fasting can be a super enjoyable practise especially for those who want to detox yourself or lose weight for a month. There are people I know who cannot wait for the fasting month because it is a chance for them to detox. And their feelings are certainly not "less respected" just because they can see non Muslims eating in public.

The Saudis are creating the wrong impression among the non Muslims that Muslims are torturing themselves and suffering during the fasting month. That is not the right message to pass to the non Muslims.

My view is that Muslims who fast should be bright and cheerful  because they are doing something that is so wonderful.  The non Muslims who dont fast are actually missing out on this opportunity.

Among the objectives of fasting (from what I have read and heard) is to teach Muslims to be humble. The word is humility. When you willingly deny yourself  food and drink you are also curbing your Self or Nafs also known as your Ego. To be humble, polite, to respect other peoples' rights and other peoples feelings.

The bulan puasa is not an opportunity for Muslims anywhere in the world to tell the non Muslims that 'kalau saya tak boleh awak pun tak boleh'. That is being very rude and insensitive. Someone should tell this to the Saudis.
