Selangor Economic Advisor Part 1
1. Yesterday, Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim announced that Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim is the Selangor Economic Advisor with a salary of RM 1.
2. Now, let us take a deep breath and think for a second. Ask yourself, what is the catch here?
3. For the past 3-6 months, one tragedy after another hit PR parties but where was this man or what was he doing? lol
4. If he cannot do his job as the leader of PR effectively, how can he has time to advise and manage the Selangor state economy?
5. If we put emotion aside we will realize that the announcement is nothing more than a publicity stunt.
6. The idea is to “show” to the PR foot-soldiers and supporters that PR is still alive and kicking. The idea was supposed to bring back “brightness” to the now “gloomy, dispirited and disheartened” lot in PR.
7. This was confirmedby Zulkifli Noordin himself.
8. Actually, the plan to “revitalize PR by attacking Najib” is not even Anwar’s idea. It was an idea by certain group of people outside PKR. Anwar had to follow it to cover his MIA since the past 3-6 months…Anyway that is for another article.
9. The idea consist of a grand strategy to attack Najib while at the same time painting a revivalist image of PAS-PKR-DAP.
Selangor Economic Advisor Part 2
Read Part 1 first.
1. Anwar was the Finance Minister from 1991 until 1998. During that period the nation ’s GDP achieved on average of 8% every year and Malaysia was called one of the Asian tigers. Many PKR, PAS and DAP supporters always used this as an excuse to show how great Anwar was.
2. What many people do not realize was that the great economic success in the 90’s was due to the paradigm shift that started in the 80’s when Tun Dr M started the shifting from basic agriculture to industrialization and privatization.
3. I am not going to say Anwar is stupid or he did not contribute anything when he was MOF Minister. He like other former MOF Minister had many ideas. However at the end of the day, the idea always have to be presented to Tun Dr M who oversee it and decide whether the idea is nonsense or not.
4. Fast forward to 1994, Tan Sri Ahmad Don was elected as the new Governor of Bank Negara. The previous governor, Tan Sri Dato’ Jaffar bin Hussein had tough time dealing with Anwar. He was kicked out by Anwar and in his replacement Anwar hand picked Tan Sri Ahmad Don as his man to oversee BNM.
5. Jaffar who had oversee the country economy crisis in the 80’s and together with Tun Dr M oversee the monumental shift in Malaysian Economy was kick out as a disgraced man.
6. It was alleged that on his last day at BNM, Jaffar went to see Anwar to give Anwar a piece of his mind. I dont remember the exact words being said but basically it was like this :
” …You accused me of this thing (Forex loss) when you know the truth that Soros was the one who devalue the sterling thus the loss. But you use your media people to attack me in this horrible manner…I pray to God that one day the same thing will come back to haunt you…”
7. 1997 came and our country was hit hard by the Asian Financial crisis. Around this time Anwar was made the Chairman of the Development Community of the World Bank. Many of Anwar supporters until today think that Anwar was the World Bank chairman. He was not!
8. The World Bank is headed by a President while IMF was headed by a Managing Director. Anwar was given a “ceremonial” position due to his “close ties” with the US. Bear in mind that IMF have always tend to be more European centric while World Bank is more US centric.
9. At that time Camdessus was the IMF MD and Wolfensohn was the WB President. Camdesuss without trying to understand the socio-economics of the East Asian countries introduce the same “medication” he gave to Mexico.
10. Wolfensohn on the other hand was very harsh in his treatment against developing nations. He proposed a “medication” similar to Camdessus by blaming the crisis on the “inefficiency” of the East Asian governments. He demands cuts in government spending, consumer subsidies, social programs and other “frills” that get in the way of debt payments to international creditors.
11. Countries that fail to meet certain targets set by the bank’s “structural adjustment programs” are deemed economic pariahs and swiftly cut off from international financial markets.
12. What was Anwar doing during this time? Well..nothing really. He was clueless and neither did he nor Ahmad Don knew what to do next.
13. When Anwar (in his capacity as Finance Minister) went to a World Bank meeting to discuss the crisis, he was approached by Camdessus with his idea. Later Wolfensohn met with Anwar and told Anwar to go back to Malaysia and cut all government spending which was happening at the time.
14. As told, Anwar went back to KL and promote the idea to cancel all the government projects. Anwar called these projects as “mega-projects”.
15. Imagine, if we had followed Anwar, we would not have KLCC, the National Stadium, F1 in Malaysia, the broadband, KL Tower, Commonwealth Games, Putra Jaya, Cyber Jaya, LRT, Putra, Komuter, Sepang, KLIA and others.
16. The idea was rejected immediately by then PM Dr Mahathir. Dr Mahathir believed these projects will benefit the country in the long run and should never be stopped.
17. Dr Mahathir ask Anwar to find another solution but since Anwar does not understand economy, he followed and hold dearly to both Camdessus and Wolfensohn idea. Instead finding another solution, Anwar ask his people Ahmad Don and Deputy Governor of BNM, Dato’ Fong Weng Phak to promote Camdessus and Wolfensohn idea.
18. When problems started to appear in Indonesia under Suharto, Anwar saw the chance of toppling Mahathir. Thus in UMNO General Assembly, Anwar told his protege Dato’ Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who was then the Youth Chief to attack Mahathir on the issue of nepotisme.
19. The next day Mahathir showed a list of all people who have benefited from Government projects and to Anwar’s embarrassment, many of them are either his family members (father and brothers) or his cronies.
20. Wanna see the list? ….Click here and here. Try to google some of the names there.
21. Many of the names listed are currently in PKR. Some of the very wealthy ones are living in Australia and UK and it is them who are currently bank rolling PR war chest. One of them is funding RPK’s portal MToday.
22. The move shocked Anwar because he never thought Mahathir would have acted in that manner.
23. Sensing that both Anwar and Ahmad Don are fools, Tun Dr M quickly setup MTEN (Majlis Tindakan Ekonomi Negara) in January 1998. The setting of MTEN dealt a low-blow to Anwar.
24. In essence, MTEN took over what MOF is supposed to do. Overnight MOF Minister has lost his power and status.
25. The rest as they say is history. The country manage to do a come back under the guidance of Tun Dr M and MTEN.
26. What happened to Anwar buddies, Camdessus and Wolfensohn? They were criticized heavily and later both resigned from their job. Indonesia never really got over Camdessus “medication” until a couple of years ago under the leadership of President SBY. Wolfensohn is now trying to create a better image for himself by doing some philanthropic activities.
27. The so called “mega-projects” proved to be beneficial to the country as rightly predicted by Mahathir. These “mega-projects” brought millions and millions of income to the country and put Malaysia on the world map.
28. Therefore my question to PR supporters in specific and the Selangor people in general, what kind of advice is Anwar going to give to the state of Selangor?
29. Tun Dr M said it best here and in his blog.

Dr. Rahim Ghouse, seorang lagi penyokong kuat Anwar turut mendapat projek Express Rail Link bernilai RM2.4 bilion.
Ketua UMNO bahagian Pasir Puteh, Kamaruddin Mohd.
Menerusi syarikat Pantai Dalam Sdn.
Bhd bersama Azmi Jaafar.

Penasihat 1 RM
Itu reaksi awal cek bila dgq DSAI menjadi penasihat Selangor dgn gaji RM 1. Teringat dengan spontan kata-kata 'mat salleh' kat office cek bila dia mengulas menyesal memberi kerja renovation office pada quotation yg rendah harganya.
"We pay peanut, so get Monkey work-lah"
TQ Anwar kerana merosakkan masa depan ramai orang.
Even Tun Mahathir pun secara sponton 'gelak' dgn perlantikan tersebut. Bukan kita nak pertikaikan kredebiliti DSAI.
Tapi kalau difikirkan-lah, kalaulah DSAI hebat sangat kenapa Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Kelantan tidak mengikut langkah yg sama melantik DSAI menjadi penasihat. Sekurang-kurangnya dapatlah beliau RM 4.00 sebulan.
Apa-apa pun terubat juga kebosanan cek dua tiga hari ini bila mendengar berita lawak ni..
p/s: Tahniah, DSAI.. Jadikan itu sbg amanah bukan suka-suka. Tunjukkan kehebatanmu jgn takat sembang tak jatuh.
ANWAR SEBAGAI PENASIHAT EKONOMI
2. Mungkin kepimpinan Kerajaan Selangor tidak tahu akan prestasi Dato Seri Anwar sebagai Menteri Kewangan Kerajaan Pusat diwaktu krisis kewangan melanda Malaysia.
