Parliament: PKR MPs defend Zul Nordin from Sivarasa

KUALA LUMPUR: Seven PKR Members of Parliament defended their fellow MP Zulkifli Noordin (PKR-Kulim Bandar Baru) at the Parliament lobby on Tuesday, denying that he was amongst those targeted by party adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in his “shape up or ship out” speech on Sunday.Datuk Zahrain Mohd Hashim (PKR-Bayan Baru), Wee Choo Keong (PKR-Wangsa Maju), Datuk Kamarul Bahrin Abbas (PKR-Teluk Kemang), Abdullah Sani Abd Hamid (PKR-Kuala Langat), Mohd Yusmadi Yusof (PKR-Balik Pulau), Azan Ismail (PKR-Indera Mahkota) and Adb Aziz Abd Kadir (PKR-Ketereh) issued a joint press statement refuting a statement by party vice-president R. Sivarasa (PKR-Subang).
Sivarasa had said that Anwar’s warning to party members whose actions were not in line with party policies that they should leave and join Umno was aimed at people like Zulkifli.
Sivarasa said Anwar’s remark was also meant for party leaders who were squabbling publicly, urging them to be more disciplined and to settle their disagreements internally.
Zulkifli had attempted to table several motions in Parliament which were not in line with party policies and without consulting party leadership. He also led a group of demonstrators to disrupt a Bar Council forum on religious conversion issues.
The PKR MPs defended Zulkifli, saying that Anwar had made a general statement that was not targeted at anyone specifically.
“We took the advice by Anwar in good faith. It is wrong and improper to link it to anyone specifically.
“It is uncalled for to accuse Zulkifli,” said Zahrain.
Wee said Zulkifli has the right to speak and he has the right to say what he wants.
Mohd Yusmadi said it was unfair to single out Zulkifli.
“The message we get from Anwar is that we have to buck up and there is no reference to any specific person,” said Mohd Yusmadi, adding that Anwar was referring to all PKR leaders.
