Day of reckoning for PKR’s Zulkifli put off
PETALING JAYA, Sept 6 – Kulim Bandar Baharu MP Zulkifli Nordin, who was scheduled to face the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) disciplinary committee today to explain his behaviour at a Bar Council forum last month, has been given a reprieve.
The hearing has been postponed to an undecided date, said Selangor Menteri Besar and state PKR chief Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim during a press conference welcoming former Federal Territory Gerakan leader Datuk Dr Tan Kee Kwong into the party this afternoon.
"He will be given a fair hearing where he will have the chance to explain his side of the story. We have the word 'Keadilan' in our name," said Khalid. The Malay word "keadilan" translates to "justice" in English.
PKR information chief Tian Chua, who was also present, added that the party leadership had done its duty by delegating the procedures for further action to the disciplinary committee, headed by deputy president Dr Syed Husin Ali.
Zulkifli, a stout proponent of Islamic rights, was part of a mob which demonstrated outside the Bar Council building in Kuala Lumpur against a public forum seeking to resolve the conflicting legal issues surrounding the conversion of non-Muslims.
The first-term MP had reportedly threatened the organisers with violence for bringing up what he considered the sacrosanct privileges of Malays and caused the forum to end prematurely before the discussion could end conclusively.
kzso - won't be surprised if this issue/case be swept under the carpet...
