[GE14 AROUND THE CORNER? SOMEONE LOOKING FOR CONTRIBUTION AGAIN?? ... HOPE IT'S GENUINE...] ... Overpriced Tugu Project Will Be 4 MILLION Square Feet In Size !!!

Is Taman Tugu project a front to raise funds for GE14, asks Rafizi

PKR Rafizi Ramli concern Taman Tugu project a front to raise funds for BN ahead of the 14th general election.

RM500 million out of the RM650 million cost will come from Khazanah Nasional

Rafizi said he was surprised by the high price tag.

"I am worried this project is nothing more than a project to generate funds for interested parties which will in the end be channelled back to Umno-BN's campaign for the 14th general election," said the PKR vice-president.

modus operandi in which funds can be siphoned from state-owned companies

inflating the prices of construction and upgrading projects handled by government-linked companies.

"These projects, which do not cost much, see their price tag increased multiple times and is then awarded to certain contractors.

"The high profit is then 'donated' back to certain leaders and organisations when the 14th general election nears," said the Pandan MP.

Rafizi said the Taman Tugu project was likely to be exposed to such a risk

I will oppose this project and mount a campaign to block it.

"I will recruit a team of volunteers comprising quantity surveyors to scrutinise the actual cost of the works," Rafizi added.

Malaysiakini has contacted Khazanah and is awaiting response.

My comments : This is the second time this is happening in the Tugu Negara, Lake Gardens area.

During the time of Slumberjack just before the 2008 elections, there was a plan to "renovate" the Lake Gardens (next door to the Tugu) for an astronomical sum of RM700 million (give or take a few tens ok, if I cant recall the exact figure, whats a few millions tto the kleptocrats.)

No one picked up the scent on that except me. I wrote about that RM700 million Lake Gardens renovation multiple times.

At that time I jogged frequently in the Lake Gardens and knew what they were saying.

The renovations did take place.. They cemented some new pathways,, planted new plants and built a small open air theatre (all concrete).  I estimate the cost should not have gone beyond five million ringgit.  RM10 million would have been astronomical.

But the project was announced at RM700 Million.

This is happening again in this TUGU Project.  RM600 million for what?

I have been doing property development and construction for almost 10 years now. Here is some arithmetic folks.

It all boils down to cost-per-square-foot of construction cost (after earth works, water, electricity connections etc).

Even today RM150 per square foot cost of construction is rich pickings for contractors in Kuala Lumpur.  They can still make a 30% profit easily.

And note this : the TUGU Project is NOT a high rise condo.  Look at the picture above.

So if you divide RM600 Million / RM150 psf = 4,000,000 square feet of space !!

So is the TUGU Project going to be 4 MILLION SQUARE FEET ??

For your comparison the Mid Valley Mega Mall is about 1 MILLION square feet !!

This is a rip off project.

And let me tell you folks, planting grass and trees (and I assure you there will be a lot of that at the Tugu Project)  is nowhere or anywhere near RM150 per square feet.

Please dont bullshit.

Lets be stupid ok. Lets say they are going to build that Tugu Project at ONE MILLION square feet  (to match Mid Valley Mega Mall).

So 1 million sq feet  x RM150 psf construction cost = RM150 Million ONLY !!

They will not be putting up statues because statues are HARAAAAAAAAM ! So say the fools.  Even if you get statues, China makes them vely, vely cheap (bronze, copper, concrete etc).

This is a rip off project.

I think they can do the whole thing (or much better than what they have planned) for RM50 million or less.

Give me RM50 million and I will build a world class Tugu Project.
