Thousands Of Slippers To 'Greet' Blair In Malaysia
Thousands of slippers are expected to 'greet' former British prime minister Tony Blair if he were to set foot in this country this week.
This is the promise made by the president of the Malay right-wing group, Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia (PERKASA), Datuk Ibrahim Ali, who also opposed Blair's visit to this country.
Addressing about 50 representatives of non-governmental organisations (NGOs), Ibrahim urged all members of NGOs to initiate action in whatever forms such as the 'facebook' and 'twitter' to oppose Blair's trip here.
Also present at the gathering was the chairman of the Perdana Global Peace Organisation (PGPO), who is also a former prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
PERKASA and the PGPO also criticised a Singapore-based company that intended to invite Blair to give a talk to a business congress, here on April 24.
They strongly opposed the invitation by the company, Success Resources Company, in view of Blair's alleged role in the occupation of the allied forces led by the United States in Iraq in 2003, which resulted in the death of more than one million Iraqi people.
Meanwhile, Dr Mahathir also expressed disgust at the companies that had sponsored Blair's visit here.
"How can you sponsor and get advice from a liar? Do you also intend to lie in carrying out your business?" he asked.
The NGO also urged the sponsors to retract their invitation to Blair with thousands of individual signatures received through an online petitionwww.perdana4peace.org which had been opened since last week.
